Hello Be You! Community,
"Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are." - Chinese Proverb
I came across this during my yoga practice today, and it landed like a gentle nudge...
How often do we carry the weight of who we think we’re supposed to be, instead of resting into who we truly are?
This is for anyone who’s ever felt the pull between expectation and ease (I know I have...many times).
We strive to be perfect, productive, and impressive. We tighten our shoulders, hold our breath, and tell ourselves that stress is part of the climb.
But what if the climb didn’t start with tension? What if our strongest, most authentic self shows up when we let go?
A small practice to try today...
Pause for 60 seconds. Close your eyes and notice where you hold tension (maybe it's in your jaw, chest, or shoulders).
Breathe slowly in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4 and repeat. With each exhale, imagine releasing a small “should” or “must.”
Ask yourself...Which expectation am I holding that doesn’t belong to me? If it fell away, what would remain?
My gentle reminder to you...
Relaxation is not laziness. Its alignment. It’s the quiet space where decisions become clearer and creativity flows.
Let go of someone else’s timeline. Breathe into your pace.
Show up as you are; authenticity is magnetic.
What expectation are you ready to release? How do you find relaxation in your day?
